Turnovers hamper Hawk girls against Sioux Central

H-M-S loses season opener to Rebels, 65-41

The turnover total for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn exceeded its point production in the girls' basketball season-opener on Nov. 24 in Hartley. The Hawks committed 44 turnovers in their 65-41 loss to Sioux Central.

The Rebels led 15-3 at the end of the first quarter and extended the margin to as many as 21 points late in the first half. Their pressing defense harassed the Hawks throughout the game, leading to 29 steals.

In the third quarter, Sioux Central converted several offensive rebounds into baskets to extend the advantage to 55-25. The Hawks did outscore the Rebels by six points in the fina...
