Trenton Vollink reaches third base before the relay throw can get to the West Bend-Mallard infielder.

The best run production of the baseball season lifted Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn to a 6-3 non-conference win over West Bend-Mallard, on July 7 in Hartley.

The Hawks scored two runs at a time to take the lead, regain it and extend it to win their second game of the season.

Dawson Schiphoff singled home both first-inning runs. In the third, Keaton Graves drove in the first run with a single and Trenton Vollink scored the second on an error to put the Hawks back in front.

H-M-S scored in the sixth on a double by Samuel Haack and a single by Sam Heyn.

Haack was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in; Heyn and Jordan Ortega were both 2-for-3; Schiphoff was 1-for-2 with two RBI; and Vollink scored twice.

WB-M tied the score with two runs in the third inning and added a run in the sixth.

Heyn allowed four hits, walked four and struck out five to earn his second win. Ortega faced the final seven WB-M batters, giving up two hits and striking out one.

• vs. MMCRU

The Hawks rallied from a five-run deficit to overtake MMCRU, but lost the lead and the game, 7-6, on July 8 at Remsen.

"It was a tough loss to end the regular season, but the guys fought back and we had a chance," Hawk coach Jeremy Gloden said.

MMCRU built a 5-0 lead through four innings. H-M-S answered in the fifth, sending 10 batters to the plate. Samuel Haack and Jordan Ortega each singled in a run, another scored on a balk and two more scored when MMCRU misplayed a ball hit by Ben Haack.

In the seventh, Kooper Ebel walked and scored on an error to put H-M-S ahead, 6-5.

MMCRU had the last answer, scoring the tying run with a bases-loaded walk and the final run on an error to spoil H-M-S's final chance to earn a War Eagle Conference win.

H-M-S lost its regular season matchup with Remsen St. Mary's, 11-0, on July 6 in Hartley.

St. Mary's scored seven runs in the first inning and two runs in the second and fourth innings.

Losing pitcher Ben Haack gave up seven runs on three hits. Samuel Haack allowed three runs, and Dawson Schiphoff allowed five hits and one run.

Ben Haack's single was the only hit for H-M-S.
