A double-digit lead over Harris-Lake Park dwindled to three points early in the second half. But 3-1/2 minutes later, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was ahead by 17 and went on to earn a 52-40 win in the final regular season game on Feb. 9.

The first 16 minutes of the game at Lake Park proved that no Hawk lead was safe. After an early six-point advantage was cut to one, H-M-S regained the momentum and built a 28-14 advantage in the second quarter. H-LP fought back again and reduced the deficit to 31-27 at half time.

Two free throws by Kayl Jacobsma in the third quarter started a 14-0 run. Lance Berends scored inside, Jacobsma made consecutive three-pointers. Kooper Ebel made a free throw and Jordan Ortega made his only basket – a three-pointer – to push the lead to 46-29.

H-M-S led by 21 points with five minutes left in the game. H-LP made a final attempt to narrow the margin but could only get as close as 12 points.

Scoring for the Hawks included Jacobsma with 18 points, Berends with 14, Ben Haack with nine and Sam Heyn and Ebel with eight each.

Berends also had 10 rebounds and two assists; Jacobsma grabbed nine rebounds; Haack had six rebounds and two assists; Keevyn Jacobsma pulled down four rebounds; Ebel had three rebounds and eight assists; and Heyn added three rebounds.

With the win, the Hawks evened their War Eagle Conference record at 5-5.
