Pioneers finish 1-2 in wrestling quad at E-LC

The Okoboji/H-M-S wrestling invitational on Dec. 5 was cancelled, but the Pioneers still competed on the mat as Estherville-Lincoln Central hosted a quadrangular featuring three teams that were to wrestle at Milford.
The Pioneers won one of three duals, topping Sioux Central (42-24) while losing to E-LC (51-27) and West Hancock (48-24).
Individually, Nick Bronstad finished 3-0 at 285 pounds, including two wins by fall. Chayton Faulkner was 2-1 at 170 pounds, Jonathan Ortiz won a match at 138 and Bryce Dodge added a win by forfeit at 113 pounds. Matthew Meyers was 0-3 at 160.
The Pioneers (2-3) are scheduled to compete in a dual at Sioux Center on Dec. 10 and at the Emmetsburg tournament on Dec. 12.

• Seven place-finishers at Sheldon JV tournament
Seven Okoboji/H-M-S wrestlers were place finishers at the season-opening JV tournament hosted by Sheldon/South O’Brien on Nov. 30.
H-M-S wrestler Jonathan Ortiz placed second. He won his first match by no contest; won by fall over Ashton Devall of Sergeant Bluff-Luton (0:46); won by fall over Jack Moreau of SB-L (5:28); and lost by fall to Braden Simington of Spencer (1:19).
Bryce Dodge placed third, losing a major decision to Jace Nelson-Brown of Emmetsburg (13-0); losing by fall to Seth Persinger of West Sioux (1:10) and winning by fall over Sam Tischer of SB-L (0:27).
Also placing for Okoboji/H-M-S were Caleb Jones and Dylan Jones, first; Michael Gonnerman and Ryan Pyle, second; and Nate Hinshaw, third.
