Dry summer weather has kept an open burning ban in place in Clay County for three weeks. The prohibitive order was issued Aug. 20. Clay County joins 10 other Iowa counties in banning open burning due to dry conditions. Registered voters should be on the lookout for absentee ballot request forms in their mailboxes this month. The Hartley Community Daycare Center recently landed a large donation from the Valero Energy Foundation. The charitable organization contributed $12,500 for future improvements to the daycare center's playground.
