Clay Central/Everly Elementary used a creative tactic to instill ever-important lessons during Red Ribbon Week last week. The district paired their Spirit Week with Red Ribbon Week, having students and staff participate in daily dress-up themes to instill a positive, no-drug attitude. The annual Royal Halloween Parade was another fun community event last Saturday. Costumed participants started the procession at the Royal Public Library, where they set off for a loop around Main Street businesses getting candy at each stop along the way. Last Sunday the Clay Raiders 4-H Club held its annual fundraiser luncheon at the Royal Community Building. Those in attendance enjoyed club members serving them delicious pork burgers, cowboy-style baked beans, chips and desserts. Children enjoyed games including bobbing for apples, pin the feather on the turkey and making their fellow 4-H'ers into toilet paper mummies. The Everly Public Library has been abuzz lately with numerous events, workout classes and craft nights. Clay Central/Everly on Monday invited families, students, staff and the community to its 2021-22 school year open house. Families walked through the classrooms seeing all of the new additions and familiar comforts that CC/E has to offer. As The Great Hall of Royal continues to see numbers grow in its Monday and Thursday morning HIGH Fitness workout classes, it seems interest has also grown in additional exercise options within the community. Everly resident Kevin Cook died Dec. 31, 2020 after a short and hard battle with cancer. His family and wife decided to hold a traveling mini golf tournament during Everly Community Day on July 31 to celebrate Kevin's memory, dubbing it "The Cookie Memorial Gold Tourney." For the past nearly nine years the Royal Post Office has had Carol Rumohr at its helm. The local woman has maintained her post during unlikely circumstances, including the COVID-19 pandemic, assuring that letters, bills, stimulus relief checks and packages were all received in an orderly fashion. Two local Lutheran churches once again teamed up for this summer's Vacation Bible School program. Following the dismissal of last Wednesday's Vacation Bible School, children headed across town to the Royal Public Library for the facility's first summer program of the year. Program festivities included story time, face painting, root beer floats and a magician who performed numerous tricks and illusions with the children's' help. Things are beginning to take shape as the Clay Central/Everly Elementary playground in Royal gets a much-needed facelift. The old equipment was recently removed. Soon, existing pea rock will be pulled back where the new gear will be placed and graded to level things off. This second step should be completed by the end of the week. Once the ground is level, the district will give word to the playground equipment company, which will install the equipment before the 2021-2022 school year begins....
The Great Hall of Royal has been bringing new entertainment and events to the community since 2019. Royal's annual Memorial Day Service was held at the city's Triangle Park on Monday.
