Michelle Huntress is Clay Central/Everly's new director of student services and Title I teacher.

With Clay Central/Everly students now midway through their first week of school, Director of Student Services Michelle Huntress filled us in on what to look forward to this school year.

What is CC/E administration and staff most excited for the 2021-2022 school year?

I am so excited to work with our great staff and students in our updated facility!

What changes or new additions can children and families expect to see this school year?

We have an awesome reading coach from Luverne, Iowa working with our teachers to help everyone fully implement EL, our reading curriculum. She will support our implementation this entire year – we are going there to observe on an in-service day in September to refine our instructional practices.

We will begin exploring the adoption of a new math curriculum second semester so we can adopt one to roll out in 2022-23.

We have an awesome TAG teacher, Mrs. Roti who will offer weekly challenges to all students in grade 2-6.

As the new school year commences, what are your goals and aspirations for students and staff?

Everyone has the ability to be a leader at times, so I hope to empower students and staff to share their gifts and lead others.

How many new teachers and staff have been added to the Clay Central/Everly team?

Third grade, Shayna Hartwig; fourth grade, Donna Call (first semester sub), Kaetlyn Warburton (second semester teacher); sixth grade, Gillian Herrera; special education, Terri Rivera; Title I and Director of Student Services, Michelle Huntress.

What would the community be surprised to know about CC/E?

We have new Promethium Boards in every room – they are incredible!

We have 71 wonderful children enrolled and we can't wait to help them learn.

We are getting air conditioning very soon!

Any additional thoughts or comments?

Thanks to everyone who supports CC/E by attending our open house, counting cans, serving on our board and volunteering in other ways. We appreciate your support!
