• Speeds reach 110 mph in pursuit

A Holstein man was charged with several counts following a pursuit on May 28 by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the report, a deputy was running a stationary radar in the 4800 mile of 125th Street and attempted to stop a 2008 Chevrolet Impala for driving 69 mph in a 55 mph zone. The vehicle continued to speed up, hitting speeds above 110 mph. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle when it entered Peterson at an unsafe speed and ended the pursuit. Further investigation determined that the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve at 125th Ave. and 4th Street in Peterson, causing damage to a lawn and to the vehicle.

The vehicle and the driver, identified as Wesley Euchner, 28, of Holstein, were located at Kirchner Park. Euchner failed to cooperate during the investigation and it was determined he was suspended from driving in Iowa. Euchner was taken to the county jail where he was charged with Driving While Suspended, Failure to Maintain Control, Failure to Provide Insurance, Speed (110/55), Violations of Conditions of Restricted License, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and Interference with Official Acts (two charges), all simple misdemeanors.

Euchner was held to await his initial appearance before a judge. Further charges are pending results.
