Borden receives Valero Scholarship

Wyatt Borden, of Sanborn, was recently awarded the Valero Scholarship. He is the son of Scott and Ruth Borden. Scott is a water treatment process operator at the Valero Renewables – Hartley.

On Friday, July 22 a luncheon was held in Wyatt’s honor.

Wyatt graduated this spring from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School with Highest Honors. In high school he participated in football, basketball, golf, baseball, Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was a two-year letter winner on a team with back-to-back state football playoff appearances in Class A, and was named All-District honorable mention in football his senior year and Academic All-District in football, basketball and golf, which can only be done by maintaining a 3.75+ GPA. He was also a two-year letterman in basketball and golf.

Wyatt was very active in his community and amassed 69 community service hours, earning him the Citizenship certificate. Outside of school he enjoys golf, weightlifting, watching YouTube, being outside and hanging with friends.

Wyatt plans to start his pursuit of an accounting degree at Northwest Iowa Community College.

Awarded ILIC district scholarship

Northwest Iowa Community College Foundation has announced that Ryan Sterler, of Sanborn, has been awarded the Iowa Land Improvement Contractors Association Northwest District Heavy Equipment Scholarship. Sterler is enrolled in the Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance program at NCC.

The $500 scholarship is made possible through a donation from the ILICA. A recipient must be a registered student in good standing in the second year of NCC’s Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance program; demonstrate good work habits and leadership qualities as evaluated by the program’s faculty; attain high academic achievement as determined by cumulative grade point average in the Heavy Equipment program; express a desire to seek employment in the heavy equipment field following graduation; and have good record of class attendance.

Receives Link Manufacturing scholarship

Maryssa Borden, of Sheldon, has been awarded the Link Manufacturing Ltd. scholarship by the Northwest Iowa Community College Foundation. The $1,000 scholarship is made possible through support from Link Manufacturing Ltd., of Sioux Center.

Borden is an Agriculture student at NCC.
