Sign up for Hartley’s Summer Celebration parade by July 30
Businesses and individuals interested in entering a float or vehicle in Hartley’s Summer Celebration parade must register by July 30. Contact Brittany Dolphin at (712) 363-1073 to register.
O’Brien Co. Relay For Life is Aug. 10
The annual O’Brien County Relay For Life will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Sheldon High School Track Field.
Teams made up of families, businesses, neighbors or church groups will raise funds for cancer research and a variety of other areas of focus during the event. All cancer survivors from O’Brien County and the area are invited to be a part of the Survivor Lap during the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Participants may contact Karla Robinet at (712) 540-7372 for information.
To remember or to honor a loved one at the luminaria ceremony at 7:30 p.m., contact a team member Sheryl Storm at (712) 723-5270 or Joan Holles at (712) 348-1260 by Aug. 4 to purchase a Luminaria.

Moneta all-school reunion is July 24
Get your reservations in for the Moneta all-school reunion to be held Saturday, July 24, at the Hartley Community Center.

Royal all-school reunion is July 17
The Royal and Clay Central all-school reunion will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at the Royal Community Center. The event coincides with Royal Fun Days.
Fifty-year classes of 1970 and 1971 will be honored.
The reunion is open to the public and reservations are not required. Refreshments will be served with a free will offering accepted.

Hartley Poets Group to meet
The Hartley Poets Group will meet on Thursday, July 29 from 2-4 p.m., at the Hartley Public Library. Participants are encouraged to bring poems written by their favorite poet as well as their own poems. The group will write new pieces to conclude the gathering.

Food bank is July 21 at Trinity UCC
The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, July 21, from 4-6 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.
Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.
Learn to use a compass on PHC nature hike
July’s Nature Nut Series, hosted by O’Brien County Conservation, will go on a hike around the Prairie Heritage Center guided by a compass. Participants will learn how to use a compass and follow clues to go on an epic adventure. It will be a fun Saturday morning program for the whole family.
The compass guided hike will be hosted on Saturday, July 17 at the Prairie Heritage Center. Participants will meet in the center at 9:30 a.m. and then head outside. This is a great program for beginners and experts of all ages, and available at no cost. Participants should wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather and bring a full water bottle.

Between the Covers reading ‘The Library Book’
Between the Covers will meet on Tuesday, July 27 at 5 p.m., in the front room of Hartley Public Library.
On the morning of April 28, 1986, a fire broke out in the Los Angeles Public Library. During the seven hours that it burned it consumed 4,000 books and damaged 700 more. Even though the scene was thoroughly investigated now, almost 35 years later, the mystery of whether the fire was purposely set and if so, by whom and for what reason, is still a mystery.
Weaving her love of books into the investigation of true crime, author Susan Orlean tells a story about libraries and the crucial role they play in our lives. Besides introducing readers to the Los Angeles Public Library, its departments and daily activities, she delves into the case of Harry Peak, an actor who was long suspected of setting the fire.

Youth camp participants will go nature trekking
Summer is the time to get outside and go for a nature trek. O’Brien County Conservation Board is hosting a youth day camp for kids ages 11-15 on Thursday, July 22, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Prairie Heritage Center.
In this Adventurers Day Camp, campers will learn orienteering skills and then put those skills to use on a trek through the prairie. They will also look for signs of animals and build a shelter. It will be a wild adventure.

Family fun planned at Dog Creek Park
Looking for some family fun? Join the campground host at Dog Creek Park for multiple opportunities to spend time together participating in family friendly activities.
Mark your calendars for these great programs all hosted at Dog Creek Park campground: Glow in the Dark Games, Saturday, July 24 at 9 p.m .; Outdoor Games, Saturday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m .; and Egg Hunt, Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m.

Regular hours at Royal library
The Royal Public Library is now operating normally. Hours remain the same: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Food pantry at Hope Lutheran
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.
Al Anon meetings
Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:
Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
