Community Calendar dates due Aug. 31

The Community Calendar for the communities of Hartley, Melvin and May City will be distributed again this year. Clubs and organizations wishing to list their meeting dates are asked to bring or send them to The Sentinel- News office by Thursday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m.

H-M-S school activities will also be listed. There is no charge to have meeting dates listed on the calendar.

When the calendars are printed, they will be available as a courtesy of the sponsors.

Blood drive planned Aug. 23 in Hartley

Donors are needed for the community blood drive on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center. New donors are especially needed.

Upcoming blood drives at Spencer

New and regular donors will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and give blood during drives being conducted by LifeServe Blood Center. Both will be held at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer.

A blood drive is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 21, from 1-6 p.m. and another will be held on Monday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Livestock entry deadline nearing for Clay County Fair

The open class livestock entry deadline is rapidly approaching for the 2023 Clay County Fair, which runs Sept. 9-17.

All entries for open-class beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, rabbits and horses are due by midnight on Monday, Aug. 21.

Check out the exhibitor handbooks online at http://www.claycountyfair.com or pick one up at the Fair Administrative Offices to find the rules and guidelines to enter your livestock at the fair. Pre-registration for all livestock departments with the exception of rabbits is mandatory and must be completed online, by mail, or in person by midnight on Aug. 21.

Daily open-class livestock shows are a large part of the fair with more than 500 exhibitors showing off over 2,000 head of livestock in 2022. In addition to the open class showings, several hundred FFA and 4-H exhibitors also show.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
