• Arrested for OWI, out-of-state warrants

Cody Quail, 28, of Spencer, was arrested at 10:44 p.m. on Nov. 1. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported a deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 3600 mile of 240th Avenue because it was suspected that Quail had been drinking. After an investigation, he was arrested and transported to the Clay County jail where he was charged with OWI-1st.

Quail was also taken into custody for two out-of-state warrants. He was held on $7,500 bond for a Grayson County, Texas, arrest warrant and $20,000 bond for a Macoupin County, Ill. arrest warrant, both for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

• Another OWI arrest in Clay County

A Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop for a violation at 2:54 a.m. on Nov. 5 in the 4800 mile of Highway 71. The report stated that Danny Dewitt, 36, of Sioux Rapids, had allegedly been consuming alcoholic beverages. He was run through a series of field sobriety tests and then placed under arrest.

Dewitt was charged with OWI-1st, a serious misdemeanor, and Speeding, a simple misdemeanor. He was held in the Clay County jail to appear before the magistrate.

• Anhydrous tank rolls over

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that James Edward Wagner, 62, of Primghar, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado K2500 eastbound in the 6400 mile of 400th Street, at 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 31. The Silverado was towing two anhydrous tanks when a wheel bearing went out in the second one, causing it to swerve before coming unlatched from the first and rolling onto its side.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the tank owned by AgState, of Albert City, was estimated at $15,000.

• Vehicle struck near parking lot

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 2:19 p.m. on Nov. 5, a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado driven by William Ries, 84, of Pocahontas, attempted to turn onto 340th Avenue from a parking lot. The pickup struck a 2007 Ford Escape driven by Luanne Broadie, 64, of Ruthven, who was northbound in the 3300 mile of 340th Avenue. The Escape was struck on the passenger side.

No injuries were reported. Damage estimates were $5,000 for the Escape and $3,000 for the Silverado. Ries was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway.
