• Collide on Highway 18 in Hartley

Two vehicles collided on Highway 18 in Hartley on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

According to the report, Lou Ann Crook, 53, of Spencer, was eastbound in the inside lane of Highway 18 at the corner near Hog Slat and the former d-Lux Drive Inn. Kaci Richter, 16, of Hartley, was eastbound in the outside lane of Highway 18 and became confused when passengers in her vehicle told her to turn left. As she attempted to make a left turn onto North First Avenue West from the outside lane, the two vehicles collided.

Richter was transported to the Spencer Hospital by Hartley Ambulance. Damage to the 2010 Chevrolet driven by Richter was listed at $5,000 while damage to Crook’s 2015 Subaru was estimated at $3,000. The report stated that Richter was cited for Making an Improper Turn at an Intersection and Violation of a Restricted License.

• Collide east of Royal

Two vehicles collided east of Royal on B40 at 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 24.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Gabriel Davis, 23, of Ruthven, was eastbound in the 1700 mile of B40 when she lost control of her 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix which entered the westbound lane. It was struck on the passenger side by a 2003 Ford Focus driven by Johnathan Updike, 28, of Royal, causing it to enter the north ditch and come to a stop against a utility pole.

Davis was transported to the Spencer Hospital for treatment of a serious head injury. Updike and a juvenile passenger refused treatment at the scene and were transported by personal vehicle to the Spencer Hospital with minor injuries.

Damage to the Davis vehicle, owned by William Davis, was estimated at $7,000, while the damage estimate for the Updike vehicle was $5,000.

• Vehicle pulls into path of semi

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 2019 Ford Escape driven by Michael Anthony Metz, 41, of Onawa, and a 2002 Freightliner tractor/semi-trailer driven by Madison Mark Dykstra, 37, of Sheldon, collided at 5:55 p.m. on Feb. 18. Metz was making a left turn off the Highway 60 exit ramp onto McKinley Avenue when his vehicle crossed the path of the semi which was northbound on McKinley Avenue.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $10,000 to each vehicle. Metz was cited for Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.

• Trapped in truck after accident

The driver of a truck was trapped inside when it turned over at 10:52 a.m. on Feb. 24.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Allen Waggoner, 53, of Sutherland, was driving a straight truck hauling hog feed southbound on Tanager Avenue/Highway 59. As he attempted to turn into a private driveway at 5050 Tanager Avenue, Waggoner lost control of the truck which turned over onto the driver’s side with him trapped inside.

Waggoner was transported by Sutherland Ambulance to Cherokee Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries to his leg and head. Damage to the 2018 Western Star truck was estimated at $15,000.
