1946: Everly native promoted to Army captain

In one of the first instances of the commercial use of the Hartley airport, the Capitol Theatre received part of its Sunday film, “The Green Years,” by plane from Omaha, Neb. Due to some shipping error only part of the film arrived by the usual method and a special plane trip from Omaha was necessary.
Duane R. Wehler, of Everly, was promoted to the rank of captain. He was assigned to the 168th Vet. Food Inspection Detachment in Berlin, Germany. He was in charge of inspecting all food entering Berlin for the U.S. Army, and gave medical treatment to the pets of U.S. personnel and...
