COVID-19 positivity rates increase

COVID-19 positivity rates in O'Brien and Clay counties continued to climb over the past week.

O'Brien County's seven-day growth was the highest, increasing from 8 percent on March 9 to 11 percent on March 16. Clay County's positivity rate increased from 8 percent to 9 percent over that same timeframe. Overall, the state's seven-day rate was 4.2 percent, up from 3.9 percent a week ago.

Coronavirus-related deaths were unchanged in O'Brien and Clay counties at 58 and 25, respectively. Those numbers have been the same for the past four weeks. Statewide, there have been 5,657 fatalities, up from 5,574 last week.

Confirmed infections since the pandemic began tallied 2,007 in O'Brien County, 2,005 in Clay County and 371,362 statewide. Recoveries in that same order were 1,713, 1,795 and 325,358.

As of Sunday, there were 161 coronavirus-related hospitalizations in Iowa, down from 179 the previous week. Two hospitalizations were reported in O'Brien County while Clay County had one.

Clay County has initiated 2,401 vaccine series and completed 3,061, while O'Brien County has initiated 1,672 series and completed 1,433. Statewide, there have been 317,316 vaccine series initiated and 413,212 completed, including administered doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. According to state's coronavirus data website, neither O'Brien County nor Clay County has administered the one-shot vaccine yet.
