2 more COVID-19 deaths reported in O'Brien County

Prairie View Campus sees case count rise

"We wish to extend our sympathy to each family who has lost a loved one," O'Brien County Public Health noted in a statement. "O'Brien County Public Health and all of our key partners throughout the county and state continue to work to limit the spread and impact of this virus in our communities."

Overall, O'Brien County has tallied 141 coronavirus cases since late March and 104 recoveries. In Clay County, those numbers are 201 and 153, respectively. Only one person has died in Clay County due to COVID-19.

A COVID-19 outbreak at Prairie View Campus in Sanborn grew by three cases over the past week.

Health officials encourage residents to follow CDC guidelines by washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow, staying home when ill, social distancing, wearing a mask when a six-foot distance can't be maintained, and disinfecting frequently-touched surfaces.

An outbreak at a local long-term care facility spread over the past week.

According to the state's COVID-19 update page on Wednesday, Prairie View Campus in Sanborn now has a total of 17 active coronavirus cases. That's up three from last week when the outbreak was first confirmed.

The Iowa Department of Public Health designates an outbreak when three or more COVID-19 cases are identified at long-term care facilities. There are currently 28 outbreaks in Iowa, and 508 long-term care residents have died as a result of COVID-19.

According to a previous statement from Prairie View Campus, residents who test positive for the virus are placed in isolation.
