1945: Partial eclipse darkens area skies

• July 12, 1945

Those who could stir themselves at that hour saw the eclipse of the sun in Hartley. At a few minutes after six the moon started its downward course across the sun. The eclipse was about 77 percent complete. It was the first time since 1932 that one been seen here.

The Hartley light plant boasted of being the official United States weather station for this section. Weather instruments reporting both temperature and moisture had been installed.

Once again Hartley demonstrated to its fighting men that it was backing them 100 percent. Complete figures for the 7th War Loan driv...
