Flood victims asked to share stories of deluge
The Spencer flood of June 2024 stole a lifetime of precious memories from the community.
Once the floodwaters receded and people began to dig out of their swamped homes and businesses, the stories of survival, rescue and reclamation began to pour forth from those who will never forget waking up to flooding caused by the clash of two angry rivers – the Little Sioux and the Ocheyedan. The rivers joined forces west of Spencer near the Ocheyedan shooting range at the 350th Street bridge, and brought much calamity to the community of Spencer the morning of June 22.
