An incredible experience

Knobloch competes at state golf tourney

The 2024 Class 1A girls' state golf tournament was a learning experience for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's Gracie Knobloch. Competing at the American Legion Golf Course at Marshalltown, May 23-24, the junior placed 38th in a field of 78 competitors.

Knobloch's final stroke total of 192 was 50 over par. She finished the first day's round with a score of 99 (51-48) and shot a second-day total of 93 (46-47).

Knobloch parred two holes on Day 1 and made a birdie and parred three holes on Day 2.

"State golf was an incredible experience," said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese. "Gracie improved with each round she shot. Lots of lessons learned and I'm excited that she gets to build on the experience and work to repeat next year."

Easton Valley won the Class 1A state team title with a final score of 711. Akron-Westfield finished fifth (756), Newell-Fonda was eighth (771) and Central Lyon was 10th (803).

Taylor Phillips, of New London, was the Class 1A state individual champion with a total gross score of 149 (73-76). Runner-up Jaylee Shaffer, of Mount Ayr, was two strokes behind at 151 (76-75).
