Adam Schierholz places sixth at 1A state meet

Adam Schierholz added his name to the list of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn athletes who finished in the Top 8 in their events at the state track and field meet in Des Moines.

Competing in the Class 1A discus throw on May 17, Schierholz placed sixth out of 24 competitors. His best effort was measured at 149'8".

The senior entered the competition seeded third, based on his winning throw of 158'5" at the state qualifying meet.

Each of the qualifiers had three attempts in the preliminaries. Schierholz's second throw of 146"11" placed him eighth among the nine competitors who moved on to the finals. His throw of 149'8" was his first in the final round.

The 1A state discus throw champion is Ian Blowe, of Akron-Westfield, who threw 175'11". Mitchell Schnepf of MMCRU placed third (158"2") and Jordan Fay of Akron-Westfield placed 18th (128'3").
