Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
All voters interested in voting absentee for the June 4, 2024 primary election may file requests for absentee ballots with their county auditor's office.
Voters wishing to receive a ballot by mail for the primary election will need to complete an absentee ballot request form and return it to either the Clay County Auditor's Office, 300 West 4th Street, Ste. 4, Spencer, or O'Brien County Auditor's Office, 115 S Hayes Ave., Primghar, before 5 p.m. on May 20.
In-person absentee voting will begin May 15 at the auditors' office.
Absentee ballot request forms can be found on the Clay County website at claycounty.iowa.gov or on the Iowa Secretary of State's website at sos.iowa.gov. They may also be requested by calling the Clay County Auditor's Office at (712) 262-1569 or O'Brien County Auditor's Office at (712) 957-3225. Forms must include the date the request is signed.
You may receive multiple absentee ballot request forms from political groups, candidates and other private organizations, but only one absentee request form needs to be turned in to the auditor's office.

• May 20 voter pre-registration deadline for primary
The deadline to pre-register to vote in the primary election is Monday, May 20. If an eligible elector is not already registered to vote, he or she may do so in one of the following ways:
1. Register to vote by mail: Voter registration forms are available on the Iowa Secretary of State's website at sos.iowa.gov. The completed form should be delivered or mailed to the Clay County Auditor's Office, 300 West 4th Street, Ste 4, Spencer, or O'Brien County Auditor's Office, 115 S Hayes Ave., Primghar.
2. Register to vote in person at your county's auditor's office by Monday, May 20, at 5 p.m.
3. Register to vote online: Voters may go to https://sos.iowa.gov/ and follow the online voter registration link. An Iowa driver's license or non-operator ID is required for online registration.
Eligible electors may also register to vote on Election Day with both proof of identity and proof of residency. Voters do not need to pre-register before every election. You only need to pre-register if you have moved or have a name change. If you have questions about your voter status, please call your county's auditor's office.
