H-M-S girls lose by 5 strokes to South O'Brien

Competing as a full team for the first time, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lost to South O'Brien by just five strokes in a War Eagle Conference girls' golf dual. The Wolverines earned the 247-252 win on a wind-swept Sanborn Golf and Country Club on April 18.

"I was super proud of the ladies battling the wind and the cold," said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese.

Gracie Knobloch and Kinsey Schirmer again claimed the Top 2 medalist spots. Knobloch shot a 52 while Schirmer finished with a round of 54.

"I appreciate how these two upperclassmen come out each night and compete," Kroese said. "They have high expectations for themselves and their determination pays off."

Three H-M-S freshmen competed for the first time in a varsity meet. Their scores were Ava Dolphin 64, Kamryn Visser 82 and Kinley Sampson 85.

"This was a great learning experience for them. They have worked very hard since the season started. I look forward to them continuing to improve their game," Kroese said.

Medalists for South O'Brien were Raegan Plagge 57 and Lindsey Einck 58.

H-M-S fell to 0-4 in conference duals.
