Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties

John C. Heuck, 84, Spencer

A celebration of the life of John C. Heuck was held Friday, March 8, 2024, at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Interment was in Lone Tree Cemetery near Everly. Warner Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

John C. Heuck was born Aug. 30, 1938 to Ruth and Art Heuck in Spencer. John was brought home from the hospital to the family farm where he proudly lived for the next 62 years, with the exception of two years at Iowa State University and one year at Morningside College.

John grew up on the Heuck farm outside Everly, where he learned his hard work ethic and grew his affinity for farming while enjoying his time spent in 4-H, FFA, and with his lifelong friends met while attending school in Everly, where he graduated in 1956. Shortly thereafter, while roller skating at Arnolds Park one summer night, John met the love of his life, Nancy Severtson, and they married on April 30, 1961. John and Nancy settled on the farm and raised their two children, Mike and Angie.

Together they embraced traveling the country in their RV, visiting all 50 states, Mexico and Canada, with his favorite trip to Alaska with six camping couples. He also loved playing cards, bowling with their gang from Everly, and serving their larger community by volunteering for the Clay County Cattlemen, Clay County Pork Producers, Evertek Board of Directors, Lions Club and Co-op Elevator Board. John also volunteered as a 4-H and FFA leader when his children were young, and was a lifelong volunteer at Hope Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed and married.

John passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the age of 84, finally free to experience all the joy Heaven brings.

While John cherished five decades as a farmer and never shied away from a good steak or hamburger, he held his family closest to his heart. Surviving members of his family include his wife of nearly 63 years, Nancy; his children: Mike (Tammi) Heuck, of Spencer, and Angie Heuck (Mark Hilliker), of Stevens Point, Wis.; grandchildren: Austin (Hannah) Heuck, of Everly; Shelby Heuck, of Sheldon; McKenon Diekroeger, of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Kieran Diekroeger, of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchild, Thea Heuck, of Everly; sister, Mary Ann Nielsen, of Bozeman, Mont.; and special nieces and nephews: Darrick (Wendy) Nielsen, Chris (Desi) Nielsen, Jayme (Dan) DeVary, Aaron (Rose) Severtson and Amber (Jeremy) Valentine.

Meeting him in heaven are his parents; his mother-and father-in-law, Mildred and Herb Minor; brothers-in-law, Art Nielsen and Phillip Severtson; and of course, his favorite companion, Nipper, who is undoubtedly already on his lap.
