Nikki and Weston Riley share a photo-op before engaging in battle.

Clay Central/Everly Elementary hosted its second fundraising event of the month last Sunday, the 2nd Annual Mother-Son NERF Extravaganza.

The event hosted families from near and far, all looking for an afternoon of memory-making fun. Participants received a favor bag before heading to the CC/E lunchroom to gear up, load NERF guns and prepare for "battle."

The sons and mother/mother-figures were given time to put on face paint, NERF face tattoos and then adorn themselves with glowsticks before getting their pre-battle debriefing on rules and regulations.

Participants then headed into the blacked-out gym, where giant cardboard boxes and barrels were placed strategically all over to create tunnels, hideaways and barricades. The gaming beats were turned up, lights turned off and colored strobe lights projected all over the ceiling, walls and flooring.

Entrants enjoyed numerous games, including Capture the Flag; Protect the VIP; Hunter, Hide and Seek; and more. The moms versed the sons in epic battle after epic battle.

A brief intermission for cookies and punch was hosted in the lunchroom before participants headed back to the gym for their final games.
