Okoboji/HMS's Tyce Hanson falls short in consolation round

Junior wrestler finishes 2-2 at state meet

Okoboji/HMS wrestler Tyce Hanson failed to make it to the podium at the state tournament held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Class 2A wrestlers opened the tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 14, with championship first and second round matches. Hanson got off to a strong start, winning a major decision over Kooper Waugh of West Delaware (13-5). He then lost by technical fall to Landen Davis of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (5:23/16-0).

Moving to the consolation bracket, Hanson opened the next day by pinning Josh Hoffman of Sheldon/South O'Brien (0:56). His tournament run then came to an end with a major decision loss to Andon Barrick of Iowa Falls-Alden (15-5).

Osage won the Class 2A team title with 128.5 points and Mount Vernon was the runner-up with 110. Hanson scored six points, putting Okoboji/HMS in a tie with Red Oak for 69th place.

Hanson concludes his junior season with a record of 26-6.
