Dawson Niichel finished with a 303 series during H-M-S's bowling meet with OABCIG.

A pair of meets last week gave Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's bowlers the opportunity to wrap up the regular season on a winning note.

H-M-S swept a meet with OABCIG on Feb. 6 at Locomotion Lanes. Total pin scores were 2722-2632 for the boys and 2026-1884 for the girls.

Individual series scores were Eli Mastbergen 268-181, 449; Caleb Aaron 192-192, 384; Graham Lux 201-161, 362; Dawson Niichel 159-144, 303; Jack Mastbergen 136-164, 300; and Riley Russell 123-170, 293.

"The boys from OABCIG started out their first game with quite a flair and we started a little slow," Hawk coach Julia Meyer noted. "However, it took Eli only one frame to get rolling as he had strikes the next eight frames. As Eli led the way, the others gained confidence with spares and strikes."

The Hawks also had success in the baker games, averaging 185 to earn the win. Scores were 196, 206, 180, 171 and 171.

The H-M-S girls began with good momentum and built a 115-pin lead in the individual games. They continued to bowl well in the baker games.

"The girls kept the pressure on by averaging 139 and ending with a win by 142 pins overall," Meyer said. "I'm very proud of the improvement of the girls this year."

Individual game scores were Jordan Lux 168-151, 319; Heather Elgersma 137-146, 283; Keyanna Brower 134-148, 282; Lexi Croatt 123-99, 222; Lillian Van Loon 88-133, 221; and Annika Overmire 100-115, 215. Baker game scores were 125, 115, 169, 135 and 155.

JV 1 scores were Skyler Shaffer 183-180, 363; Noah Niichel 135-224, 359; Damian Dodge 177-164, 341; Brennan Stoltz 163-161, 324; Brett Stoltz 145-147, 292; and Luke Dagel 143-143, 286. Baker game scores were 186, 158, 163, 121 and 159.

With the number of JV bowlers at H-M-S, some JV 2 team members only bowled one game. Scores were Parker Russell 174-146, Owen Tifft 156-162, Ian Werkmeister 135-108; Aiden Nitzel 91-103, Braden Niichel 178, Moises Gonzalez 125, Jackson Brower 120, Hector Diaz 114, Ryan Grotluschen 105 and Blake Essing 101.

Baker game scores were 143, 148, 144, 144 and 165.

• Different format at Pocahontas

Senior Keyanna Brower competes in her final regular season home meet against OABCIG.

The H-M-S girls and seven JV boys competed in a three-game match format at Pocahontas on Feb. 8. The different format was used due to the fact that Pocahontas Area has two girls and two boys on their team.

"It was a good experience to go bowl on different lanes. The alleys at Pocahontas gave us a good glimpse of how they need to adjust to differently oiled lanes," Meyer said.

Girls' scores were Croatt 125-157-122, 404; Elgersma 89-144-151, 384; Lux 129-124-101, 354; Brower 109-113-125, 347; Van Loon 116-102-125, 343; and Overmire 96-142-103, 341. Their team score was 1832.

The JV boys, including the five seniors, finished with 2181 total pins. Individual results were Shaffer 136-183-161, 480; Werkmeister 137-168-138, 443; Brett Stoltz 142-162-130, 434; Noah Niichel 97-166-162, 425; Brennan Stoltz 149-126-124, 399; and Brenden Larson 117-90-107, 314.
