Winter sports teams from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn will enter postseason competition in the coming week.

The preliminary round of the Class 1A boys' district basketball tournament will be played on Friday, Feb. 9. No. 9 seed H-M-S will play No. 8 Sibley-Ocheyedan at Sibley. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

The winner advances to play No. 1 seed North Union on Monday, Feb. 12 at Armstrong.

Okoboji/HMS wrestlers will compete in the Class 2A district meet at Estherville on Saturday, Feb. 10. Other competing schools are Algona, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, Central Lyon/G-LR, Cherokee, Clear Lake, Estherville-Lincoln Central and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. Matches begin at 10 a.m.

The Top 2 place winners in each weight class advance to the traditional state wrestling tournament, Feb. 14-17 in Des Moines.

Locomotion Lanes in Sanborn is the site for Class 1A state qualifying meets. The girls will bowl on Monday, Feb. 12 and the boys will compete on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Teams assigned to the site are Charles City, Emmetsburg (girls only), Forest City, H-M-S, North Iowa, Pocahontas Area and Sergeant Bluff-Luton (boys only).

All teams will bowl 15 baker games and individuals will bowl three games. The championship team and Top 4 individuals advance to the state bowling championships on Feb. 19-21 at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo.

H-M-S opens the Class 2A girls' regional basketball tournament at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The Hawks will play Manson Northwest Webster in Hartley. The winner advances to the Region 5 semifinal at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, at Sioux Rapids.
