Cocktails & Kisses at HKCC in Everly

The Hap Ketelsen Community Center in Everly will host “Cocktails & Kisses” on Saturday, Feb. 10. The event will feature drinks and a meal.

Proceeds will benefit the HKCC and Everly Public Library. See the ad on Page 2 for complete details.

Red’s Catering menu

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving a variety of specials on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

First Eggs & Issues forum is Jan. 27

The Spencer Chamber will once again host three sessions with local state lawmakers during the 2024 legislative session. Constituents from around the region are invited to express concerns about legislation before these elected officials.


All forums are held from 9-10:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers of Spencer City Hall, 101 W 5th St. Dates this winter include: Jan. 27, Feb. 24 and March 23.

Invited to attend are local house and senate representatives along with state and national government elected officials.

Monday, Jan. 22: Breakfast – Cereal, pop tart (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – French bread pizza, romaine salad, cherry tomatoes, apples.

Tuesday, Jan. 23: Breakfast – Egg and cheese on biscuit, fruit, juice; Lunch – Chicken patty on bun, mashed potatoes, corn, mixed fruit.


Wednesday, Jan. 24: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Crispito, cheese, lettuce/tomatoes, red peppers, banana, bread (9-12).

Thursday, Jan. 25: Breakfast – Pancake and sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Spaghetti, breadstick, green beans, cucumbers, applesauce.

Friday, Jan. 26: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Ham and cheese on bun, chips, baked beans, celery/carrots, strawberries.

Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

All are welcome to attend.

Upcoming blood drive at Peterson

Recent winter weather has caused blood drive cancellations impacting the community blood supply. LifeServe Blood Center is urging community members to check out the drive scheduled at Peterson on Monday, Jan. 22, from 2-5:30 p.m. at 101 2nd Street.

DNR to hold meetings about rule changes

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where local staff will provide updates on recently completed hunting and trapping seasons, discuss possible changes to hunting and trapping rules and regulations, and address other topics as requested.

The meetings are open to the public. Comments collected from these public meetings will be considered along with other related comments received by the Iowa DNR prior to proposing changes to hunting rules and regulations. Proposed rules will be presented to the Natural Resource Commission during a regular public meeting for consideration and additional public comment. Area meeting locations include:

• Algona, Feb. 20, 7 p.m., Waters Edge Nature Center, 1010 250th St.

• Okoboji, Feb. 20, 6:30 p.m., Maser Monarch Lodge, 22785 Nature Center Rd.
