• Injured in semi rollover

Ronald Peters, of Rembrandt, was driving a 2017 Peterbilt semi on Highway 71 just north of Spencer at 5 a.m. on Dec. 24. As he reached for something on the passenger seat, the rig went off the road and traveled into the median, coming to rest on its side.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Peters was trapped in the cab and was removed with the assistance of firefighters. He was taken by ambulance to the Spencer Hospital. The tractor and trailer were totaled.

The Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Police Department, Spencer and Fostoria fire departments, Spencer Hospital Ambulance and a towing service assisted at the scene.

• Loses control of vehicle

Michael Riesberg, of Spirit Lake, lost control of his 1999 Toyota 4Runner while driving southbound on county road N-14 at 5 a.m. on Dec. 28. The vehicle struck an embankment and went into the river, coming to rest on another embankment.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Riesberg managed to get out of the vehicle, walk to a farmhouse and call 911. He was transported to Spencer Hospital. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ruthven Fire Department and two towing companies.
