Remsen St. Mary's was on the plus side of almost every statistical category against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn during a War Eagle Conference girls' basketball game. St. Mary's (1A No. 4) used that advantage to earn a 70-31 win Dec. 8 at Remsen.

A 20-2 start put St. Mary's firmly in control of the contest. H-M-S trailed 24-8 at the end of the first quarter and fell farther behind as the first half progressed. St. Mary's led 43-20 at the break.

H-M-S went scoreless over the final four minutes of the third quarter, allowing St. Mary's to extend their lead to 61-26. Neither team scored at a high level during the final period, but St. Mary's still added to their scoring advantage.

Moriah Otto's nine points led H-M-S. Gracie Knobloch scored seven points, Frankie Mohni scored five, Abby Douma scored four, and Kylee Schiphoff and Lindsey Van Es each finished with three.

The Hawks made 12-of-32 shots from the floor, were 3-of-6 at the foul line and committed 36 turnovers.

Douma contributed five rebounds and two blocks; Otto had four rebounds; Knobloch had three rebounds, two assists and two steals; Addison Sheeler had three rebounds; and Schiphoff had two rebounds, assists and steals.

Remsen St. Mary's had four players score in double figures, led by Mya Bunkers with 16 points. They attempted 20 more shots from the floor, shot 13 more free throws, had a 26-20 edge in rebounding and had 19 steals.

H-M-S fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in WEC play. They play at Gehlen Catholic on Dec. 15 and host George-Little Rock on Dec. 19 to conclude the pre-Christmas schedule.
