Zac Pearson defends Remsen St. Mary's Carter Tentinger during the War Eagle Conference game at Remsen.

Four players scoring in double figures and an advantage on the boards helped send Remsen St. Mary's past Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 61-19, in a War Eagle Conference boys' basketball game on Dec. 8 at Remsen.

Lawton Schiphoff's basket tied the score at 2-2 but St. Mary's would take control with an 11-1 run. Bradley Van Beek made a three-pointer to make the score 13-6 at the end of the opening quarter, and made another basket which gave the Hawks their only points of the second quarter. St. Mary's then scored 17 unanswered points to increase the lead to 32-8.

George Vargas momentarily broke the scoring drought with a basket early in the third quarter but H-M-S would only score two more points and trail 50-12 entering the final period.

Schiphoff scored nine points, Van Beek scored five, Kolby Douma and Vargas scored two, and Alex Billings added a free throw. Billings grabbed five rebounds and Vargas had three.

Collin Homan scored 18 points to lead St. Mary's, which made 52 percent of its shots from the floor and finished with 15 offensive rebounds.

H-M-S (0-4, 0-1) finishes the pre-Christmas schedule at Gehlen Catholic on Dec. 15 and at home against George-Little Rock on Dec. 19.
