Girls outscored by MMCRU in opening bowling meet

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn opened the 2023-24 girls' bowling season with a pair of meets at Locomotion Lanes at Sanborn.

H-M-S lost to a strong MMCRU team during the opener on Nov. 28. The Royals finished with 2,290 points while the Hawks had 1,867.

"The girls met a formidable opponent in the MMCRU girls' team as they were a tough team last year with several returning players," said Hawk coach Julia Meyer.

Singles game scores were Keyanna Brower 143-127 270, Annika Overmire 113-149 262, Jordan Lux 112-149 261, Heather Elgersma 140-115 255, Meghan Larson 125-116 241, Lillian Van Loon 112-120 232, and Lexi Croatt 88-103 191.

With only four players, H-M-S came up short against Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Nov. 30. The Warriors had a combined point total of 1,591 and H-M-S finished with 1,323.

Individual scores were Brower 114-172 286, Croatt 91-130 221, Overmire 130-86 216, and Van Loon 80-89 169. Baker game scores were 110, 72, 63, 84 and 102.

"We need to keep improving our spare shooting and strikes," Meyer noted.

The girls will compete against West Sioux on Dec. 12 at Hawarden.
