• Arrested on weapons charge
Aiden Chaffin, 19, of Spencer, was arrested on Nov. 5 by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. During a traffic stop, Chaffin was allegedly in possession of a sawed off shotgun, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and tobacco products under the legal age.
He was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Minor in Possession of Tobacco, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, and Possession of an Offensive Weapon. He was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
• Juveniles cited on drug charges
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that a deputy stopped a vehicle at 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 in the 1000 mile of Highway 18 for a speeding violation. The smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle and the occupants were allegedly in possession of marijuana and vape pens.
A 16-year-old from Milford was cited for Speeding, Violation of an Instruction Permit and Minor in Possession of Tobacco, and was cited into juvenile court for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana. He was released into the custody of his parents.
A 17-year-old female from Royal, two 16-year-old males from Milford and a 17-year-old male from Fostoria, who were passengers in the vehicle, were cited for Minor in Possession of Tobacco and were cited into juvenile court for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana. All were released to the custody of their parents.
• Bad day for deer
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported three accidents on Nov. 11 which involved vehicles striking deer.
Drake Mac Rae Wrather, 28, of Orange City, was westbound on Highway 10 when his 2020 Ram 150 struck a deer. Damage to the pickup was estimated at $5,000.
A 2017 Ram 1500 Longhorn driven by Brianne Eveleta Blom, 34, of Terril, struck a deer on a bridge in the 7000 mile of 320th Street. The damage estimate was $1,500.
A 2013 Toyota RAV driven by Mallory Mae Snider, 33, of Hartley, also struck a deer on a bridge in the 7000 mile of 320th Street. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $15,000.
