Gary William Wolthuis, 83, of Spencer, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023. Gary was the oldest of three children born to Gerhard and Bernice Wolthuis.
He grew up on a farm and attended country school until fourth grade. He went on to finish his education at Spencer, graduating in 1958.
He was baptized, confirmed and was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, until retiring to Casa Grande, Ariz.
He married the love of his life, Nelda Myers, on Sept. 24, 1961. They were blessed with two children, Lynette and Timothy.
Gary and his family shared a full life, including camping, golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, fishing and wonderful memories at Cutty’s Resort in Okoboji.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nelda; daughter, Lynette Tonder, of South Dakota; and Timothy (Tess) Wolthuis, of Idaho; grandchildren: Justin (Katie), of Colorado; Lyndsey (Adam), of Kentucky; Jared (Nikki) of Alabama; and Ellianna and Dominic, of Idaho; as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, David (Anne) Wolthuis, of Nebraska; and sister, Sharon (Tom) Pickrell, of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Colleen Wolthuis; and niece, Tracy Pickrell.
The family requests in lieu of flowers and gifts, donations can be made to Dobson Home/Hospice of the Valley, Chandler, Ariz., or First English Lutheran Preschool in Spencer.
Services will be held at Spencer in the spring of 2024.
