Hartley meat locker to hold open house this Saturday

Nelson’s Locker, LLC, will hold an open house on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 3-7 p.m. The event will mark a year and half of ownership under Josh and Jennifer Paskert.

New hours at HPL

The days and hours the Hartley Public Library is open will change on Monday, Oct. 9. The new schedule is Monday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m .; Tuesday, closed; Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m .; Friday, 10 a.m.-noon; and Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon.

A craft day for children of all ages will be held at the library on Monday, Oct. 23, starting at 1:30 p.m. Participants will be making a ghost-themed craft.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Community Bible study begins Oct. 8

A community Bible study begins Sunday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the Hartley Public Library. Please use the east door to enter.

Upcoming blood drive at Spencer

New and regular donors can roll up their sleeves to give blood during a drive being conducted by LifeServe Blood Center. The drive is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 16, from 1-6 p.m. at 901 11th Street SW in Spencer.

Birder workshop Oct. 14 at Kindlespire Complex

The Clay County Conservation Board will host a Building Better Birders workshop on Saturday, Oct. 14. The event will be held at the Kindlespire Complex, located one mile east of Cornell on 485th Street.

A sunrise hike will be held from 7:30-11:30 a.m. and an afternoon hike is planned from 1-3 p.m. This come-and-go event is geared for families.

Building Better Birders program Oct. 10 at PHC

You can experience the world of birding during presentations at the Prairie Heritage Center on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

The scheduled presentations include: Birding Internationally, 3-4:30 p.m .; Woodpeckers, Doves and Similar Species of Iowa, 5-6:30 p.m .; Nocturnal Raptors of Iowa, 6:45-7:45 p.m .; and an Owl Prowl Hike, 8-9 p.m.

Dutch oven cooking program at Mill Creek

The O’Brien County Conservation Board invites the public to Mill Creek Park Lodge on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. for cooking with Dutch ovens. Register for your space by calling or emailing the Prairie Heritage Center.

All food will be provided. The event is free and participation in cooking and eating is on the menu. Chili mac, stuffed mushrooms and caramel apple dump cake will be included in the experience. All ages are welcome to attend.

Fall Family Fest is Oct. 7 at Mill Creek Park

The O’Brien County Conservation Board invites the public to Mill Creek Park for the Fall Family Fest on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 4-6:30 p.m.

All ages are welcome to attend and can Trick-or-Treat their way around the campground. Activities include pumpkin atlatls, leaf painting and beaded corn crafts.
