• Arrested on drug charges

Michele Pattison, 47, of Sutherland, was arrested on July 27 after a search of her home by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities report that multiple items of drug paraphernalia were found, along with 2.5 grams of green plant material consistent with marijuana and six grams of a crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine.

Pattison was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana (third or subsequent offense), a class D felony; and Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class B felony. She was also charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon for allegedly striking a victim with a baseball bat, and Keeping Premises Where Controlled Substances Are Used.

Pattison was held in the county jail in lieu of a $32,000 cash or surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 7.

• Pursuit speeds top 100 mph

Clay County deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Michael Scott Daniels, 48, of Dickens, at 12:10 a.m. on July 22 in the 2200 mile of 320th Street. Daniels failed to stop and a pursuit ensued for approximately 13 miles, with speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The pursuit ended when Daniels lost control of his vehicle and went into the ditch in the 2900 mile of 320th Street. When the vehicle became disabled, Daniels attempted to flee on foot. After a short pursuit, deputies were able to apprehend him.

No injuries were reported. The only damage was to the Daniels vehicle when it entered the ditch.

Daniels was charged with Felony Eluding, Driving While Barred, Speeding 100-55, Improper Use of Registration, Operation without Registration, No Proof of Insurance and Failure to Maintain Control. He was released on bond.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department.

• Juvenile charged with Operating While Intoxicated

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 10 p.m. on July 24, of a disturbance on the road in the area of 400th Street and 225th Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle leaving the area. It was stopped in the 4300 mile of 225th Avenue where it was determined that a juvenile male, 17, of Sioux Rapids, was under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol and vape products were also located in the vehicle.

The juvenile was charged with Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense, Possession of Alcohol and Possession of Vape Products. He was turned over to his parents.

• Injured in accident

Devin Heronemus, 20, of Sheldon, was injured in an accident on July 24 and taken by the Paullina Ambulance to Orange City Health System Hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that Heronemus was following a dump truck westbound on 430th Street, northwest of Paullina. He was too close and did not see brake lights of the truck due to the dust cloud from the gravel road. Heronemus swerved his 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer to avoid hitting the dump truck, failed to stop at the intersection of 430th Street and Oriole Avenue/L40, and went through the intersection into the west ditch of Oriole Avenue where it came to rest.

Damage to the Trailblazer was estimated at $6,000. Heronemus was cited with Following Too Closely.
