H-M-S registration

Online registration for the 2023-24 school year at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn is open now through July 31, with in-person registration slated for Aug. 3.

Electricity to be shut off in Hartley

Hartley Municipal Utilities will have a planned power outage on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 11 p.m. The outage will end on Thursday, Aug. 3 at 4 a.m.

HHS alumni to gather

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be serving coffee and bars to Hartley (60 and over) graduates, on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 8:30-10 a.m.

Members of the Class of 1958 will also be celebrating their 65th class reunion.

Summer Celebration countdown continues

With the calendar closing in on August, that can only mean one thing: Hartley Summer Celebration is near.

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving four carryout specials on Wednesday, Aug. 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The business is also taking food orders for the weekend of Summer Celebration

Rainbow Cutlery in downtown Hartley will be holding a sale during Summer Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 5, featuring a variety of items.

Children’s story time

Children’s story time at the Hartley Public Library will be held on Monday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m.

Veterans invited to participate in parade

Area veterans are invited to either walk with the Legion Color Guard or ride the trailer that is provided during the Hartley Summer Celebration parade on Saturday, Aug. 5. Those interested should be at the Legion Building (back room) at 10 a.m.

Music program at Pleasant View chapel

It has been almost four years since any music has been played or sung in the chapel at Pleasant View Cemetery. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, Bonnie Corron will be back to entertain the community with her talents on the pump organ and her voice singing favorite hymns and melodies.

A varied selection of songs will be performed. The chapel will be open at 1 p.m. on Aug. 5.

Movie night at First Reformed Church in Melvin

The next movie night at the First Reformed Church in Melvin will be Sunday evening, July 30 at 7 p.m. At that time the movie “Mr. What” will be shown.

The movie is an inspirational drama about a man named Mattiesko Wuopio (better known as Mr. What), who has spent 22 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Upon apprehension of the real criminal he is released, only to face the stigma of jail time as he reenters society in the tiny town of Tecumseh, Mich.

He seeks redemption through his ailing father who is affected with Alzheimer’s disease, along with an endearing little boy and a stray dog. The story reveals that miracles are never far away, especially when one is needed.

Refreshments will be served during a brief intermission.
