No Hawk girls qualify for state track meet

With three teams each scoring over 100 points, nine other girls' track and field teams found it difficult to finish among the Top 8 in each event at the 2A state qualifying meet.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored in just one event during the meet on May 11 at Sheldon. Payton Diehm, Emily Mutombo, Abby Otto and Moriah Otto combined for an eighth-place finish in the 4x100 relay. They ran a time of :55.67.
Mutombo just missed scoring with a ninth-place finish in the 100 meter dash (:13.79); Megan Otto finished ninth in the high jump (4'6"); and Frankie Mohni, Moriah Otto, Jocelyn Abonce and Kamryn Ebel placed ninth in the distance medley relay (5:14.79).
Other individual results included: 100 – Moriah Otto, 14th, :14.27. 200 – A. Otto, 17th, :30.42; Pamela Mutombo, 20th, :32.23. 400 – Evelyn Steffen, 18th, 1:18.08. 800 – Abonce, 13th, 2:51.14; Clara Funk, 16th, 3:07.73. 1500 – Lexi Croatt, 12th, 6:15.30; Funk, 15th, 6:52.75. 100 hurdles – Mohni, 15th, :19.51. 400 hurdles – Mohni, 11th, 1:19.94. Long jump – Diehm, 12th, 12'3". Discus – Hannah Tessum, 20th, 56'9"; Alexis Grover, 21st, 44'9". Shot put – Grover, 19th, 26'10-1/4"; Tessum, 20th, 26'7-1/4".
Also competing in the relays were: 4x200 – P. Mutombo, Megan Otto, Steffen, Diehm, 10th, 2:07.08. 4x400 – Steffen, Ebel, Croatt, Abonce, 10th, 5:15.54. Sprint medley – Diehm, A. Otto, Moriah Otto, Steffen, 11th, 2:17.69.
Teams at the top of the girls' rankings were Sioux Central 109.5, Unity Christian 107 and West Lyon 103. Other team results were Estherville-Lincoln Central 91, Sibley-Ocheyedan 85, Okoboji 64, Central Lyon 50, Western Christian 46.5, Emmetsburg 43, Sheldon 31, West Sioux 9 and H-M-S 1.
With no state qualifiers, the Hawk girls' season comes to a close. Emily Mutombo is the only senior on this year's squad.
