• Accused felon flees the country

A man on house arrest with his family in O'Brien County has fled the United States.

According to the report, Ali Younes, 19, was on house arrest with his family pending trial for charges of attempted murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree theft resulting from an incident that occurred on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City.

Younes was granted pretrial release and was required to wear a GPS monitoring device, surrender his passport and stay with his family. Authorities allege he removed the monitoring device and used Jordanian travel documents to board a flight to Jordan from O'Hare International Airport.

Younes' parents were arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting his escape, and were charged with Escape from Custody. Alfred Younes was arrested attempting to board a flight from Omaha, Neb. to Jordan, and Lima Younes was arrested by the Orange City Police Department. Authorities state that efforts are being made to return Younes to the United States.

• Collisions occurs east of Hartley

The O'Brien County Sheriff's Office investigated an accident involving three vehicles that occurred at 5:48 a.m. on May 12.

The report stated that Daniel Lee Walker, 45, of Hartley, was driving eastbound near the intersection of 320th Street and Wilson Avenue when he reached for something in the car and lost control. The 2001 Buick Regal crossed the centerline and collided with a 2007 Kenworth tractor/semi-trailer driven by Tyler John Fada, 48, of Milford, who attempted to swerve out of the way of the Walker vehicle.

A third vehicle driven by Jeffry Allen Zernechel, 68, of Hartley, was westbound on 320th Street when he came upon the accident. His 2015 Chevrolet Colorado struck debris in the roadway and lost steering ability.

Walker was transported to Spencer Hospital by Hartley Ambulance with suspected minor/non-incapacitating injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Damage to the Kenworth owned by Wayne Transports, Inc., of Rosemount, Minn., was estimated at $65,000. Damage estimates for the Regal and Colorado were $5,000 and $2,000, respectively.
