Two Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn golfers placed among the Top 20 players at the War Eagle Conference girls' tournament on May 2.

Kinsey Schirmer finished fourth, firing an 18-hole score of 99 (50-49), and Gracie Knobloch placed 14th with a round of 106 (50-56).

"It was great to get two of our golfers in the Top 20," said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese. "Kinsey had a phenomenal day finishing fourth overall."

Also playing in the tournament were Abby Kunzman, 35th, 117 (58-59); Elise Haack, 39th, 118 (53-65); and Morgan Grooters, 41st, 120 (55-65).

A total of 50 girls competed at The Ridge Golf Course at Sioux Center.

South O'Brien won the team title with a total score of 413. Hinton came in second at 421, edging Akron-Westfield and Gehlen Catholic at 422. The rest of the field included Remsen St. Mary's 426, H-M-S 440, MMCRU 446, Unity Christian 454 and Harris-Lake Park 471. West Sioux only had two players and Trinity Christian does not compete in girls' golf.

"I was a little disappointed we didn't finish the day higher in the conference standings," Kroese acknowledged. "All of our girls had one round they played really well. With the cold and wind, we just didn't maintain it into the second nine."

Girls sweep MMCRU, H-LP in golf triangular

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn shot a new low team score for the season in a pair of War Eagle Conference girls' golf dual wins on May 4. In their final home meet of the season, the Hawks defeated MMCRU, 204-208, and Harris-Lake Park, 204-234.

Gracie Knobloch shot a 44 to finish as top medalist for both duals. Kinsey Schirmer's 50 placed her second and third on the leaderboard against H-LP and MMCRU, respectively.

Other scores for H-M-S were Elise Haack and Morgan Grooters 55 (season-low score), and Abby Kunzman 61.

Medalists for H-LP were Rylie Wittrock (51) and Madeline Greve (54), who finished third and fourth. MMCRU medalists were Sophie Hohbach (48) who was second, and Cassie Weller (52) who was fourth.

The wins improved the Hawks' conference dual record to 6-2.
