H-M-S athletes look to advance in postseason competition

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn track and field athletes will compete in the Class 2A coed state qualifying meet today (May 11) at Sheldon. Field events begin at 4 p.m. with running events to follow at 4:30.

The Top 2 place winners in each event plus the next eight performances statewide will advance to the state meet, May 18-20, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The girls' 1A regional first round golf meet will be held Friday, May 12, at Primghar Golf & Country Club. Tee-off time is 10 a.m. Teams in the regional are GT/RA, Harris-Lake Park, H-M-S, Newell-Fonda, South O'Brien, Storm Lake St. Mary's and West Bend-Mallard.

The Top 2 teams advance to the regional final at the Spring Valley Golf Course near Livermore, on Wednesday, May 17. If the host school team finishes first or second, the third-place team also advances. The Top 6 individuals (and those tied for sixth) also advance to the regional final, regardless of whether they are on a qualifying team or not.
