Grace Fellowship to host large garage sale on Saturday

Grace Fellowship in Hartley will host its annual garage sale on Saturday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. A variety of items will be available, with all proceeds benefitting the Grace Fellowship Preschool.

Benefit planned for Ivarson family in Primghar

A benefit for the family of Eric Ivarson will be held on Sunday, May 7 at the Primghar Community Building. Ivarson died unexpectedly earlier this year, leaving a wife and six young sons.

An omelet and cinnamon roll brunch will be served and a bake sale will be held. The event will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Brunch for Hartley rec trail is May 7 at community center

The Hartley Recreation Trail Committee will hold a Belgian waffle brunch fundraiser for the trail on Sunday, May 7 from 9 a.m.-noon.

Meadowbrook Junior Golf Academy signup is open

Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club will once again host its Junior Golf Academy next month. The event will be held on June 13, 14, 20 and 21.

Children in third grade through high school are invited to participate. A tournament will conclude the schedule. See the ad on Page 3 for more details.

Mother’s Day brunch at Crazy Bob’s in Hartley

Crazy Bob’s in Hartley is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, May 14. The special runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Al Anon meetings scheduled at 3 area locations

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

Ernst staff to host traveling office hours today

Representatives from the office of Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) will be available in all 99 counties throughout May to assist Iowans with problems or questions about issues involving Social Security, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration issues and other federal programs.

Constituents seeking assistance with federal agencies who are unable to attend the traveling office hours can contact one of the senator’s offices directly or submit a casework request online at http://www.Ernst.senate.gov. If you have any questions, please contact the senator’s office.

Ernst’s staff will be at the following locations. Please note that the senator will not be at the traveling office hours.

• Clay County: Thursday, May 4, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Spencer City Hall Council Chambers, 101 West 5th Street, Spencer.

• O’Brien County: Thursday, May 4, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Primghar City Hall Council Room, 160 South Hayes Ave., Primghar.

May is a busy month at HPL

The Hartley Public Library will be having a children’s story time and craft on Monday May 8, at 10:30 a.m. Please wear clothes that can get messy!

The Between the Covers Book Club book for May is “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” by V.E. Schwab. Newcomers are welcome to the book club and you can pick up your copy to read at the library. The book club will meet to discuss the book on Tuesday, May 30, at 5 p.m. at the library.

The library will host a car seat safety check on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Experts will be available to help and inform you, double check to make sure you are using the correct car seat and that it is installed correctly. Please bring your car, child and car seat.

Hartley Public Library will host an event for local author David Hoye, of Everly, on Thursday, May 18 from 2-5 p.m. At 2 p.m. he will be reading from his three books: “Bits and Pieces,” “All the Kids on My Block” and “Special Days of Summer.” This will be followed by a meet-and-greet as well as a book signing. Everyone is welcome.

Commencement at NCC is May 12

Commencement exercises at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon will be held on Friday, May 12. There are 244 graduates in the Spring 2023 class.

The Nursing Commencement and Associate Degree Nursing Pinning ceremonies will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Northwest Iowa Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on the NCC campus. Student keynote speakers are Faith Kwamboka Kamanda, of Sheldon, a Practical Nursing graduate, and Jordan M. Mendoza, of Oakley, Calif., an Associate Degree Nursing graduate.

The Radiologic Technology Pinning Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Building A, Rooms 116/119.

The afternoon spring commencement ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. for all programs except Nursing, also in the Northwest Iowa Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center. The commencement address will be given by Daniel L. Schriever, of Rock Rapids, an Industrial & Commercial Wiring graduate. The Alumnus of the Year Award will also be presented.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
