Everly Fire & Rescue breakfast is Sunday

Everly Fire & Rescue will host its annual breakfast on Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., at the fire station.

The menu features French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, lil’ smokies and beverages. A free will offering will be accepted, and all proceeds will go towards the department’s new truck and equipment.

National Day of Prayer at St. Paul’s

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley will hold two services observing the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 4. The first service will be held from 7-7:30 a.m., and the second will take place from 7-7:30 p.m.

All are invited to participate. Refreshments will follow.

Red’s Catering menu

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving three carryout specials on Wednesday, May 3 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

‘Adopt a Pot’ in Hartley this spring

Around 20 flower pots with petunias will once again be planted and placed throughout Hartley this spring, and local residents are encouraged to adopt one by May 1.

Grace Fellowship to host large garage sale next month

Grace Fellowship in Hartley will host its annual garage sale on Saturday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. A variety of items will be available, with all proceeds benefitting the Grace Fellowship Preschool.

Benefit planned for Ivarson family

A benefit for the family of Eric Ivarson will be held on Sunday, May 7 at the Primghar Community Building. Ivarson died unexpectedly earlier this year, leaving a wife and six young sons.

An omelet and cinnamon roll brunch will be served and a bake sale will be held. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Brunch for rec trail is May 7

The Hartley Recreation Trail Committee will hold a Belgian waffle brunch fundraiser for the trail on Sunday, May 7 from 9 a.m.-noon.

The event will be held at the Hartley Community Center. See the ad on Page 5 for more details.

60th anniversary open house for Krogers

Kenny and Glenda Kroger, of Hartley, will celebrate their 60th anniversary on Saturday, April 29 with an open house at the Legion Club from 2-4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

St. Joseph’s Arts Council sponsors May 7 concert

A trio of musically talented Iowa Great Lakes natives will present an afternoon of fun and music for everyone at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Milford. Dave Rowley, Karess Knudtson and Ryan Sather will perform in a concert sponsored by the St. Joseph’s Arts Council at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. A freewill donation will be accepted.

Rowley and Sather are popular Lakes area entertainers. They have been together for more than a decade performing in many area venues, garnering a large following of fans. Knudtson, a multi-talented artist, vocalist, photographer and naturalist, is also an Okoboji native. Instrumentally, Rowley will be on keyboard and Sather will be on guitar. Knudtson will share vocals.

There will be something for everyone as they perform their renditions of classical hits, an original song or two, and wonderful arrangements of new and old hits. An ice cream reception will follow the concert in the St. Joseph’s Parish Center.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

All are welcome to attend.

Clay County Treasurer’s Office closed May 3

The Clay County Treasurer’s Office will be closed Wednesday, May 3, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for a motor vehicle and driver’s license district meeting.

Monday, May 1: Breakfast – Cereal, pop tart (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – Popcorn chicken, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, peaches, roll.

Tuesday, May 2: Breakfast – Cinni minis, fruit, juice; Lunch – Ham and cheese on bun, baked beans, baby carrots, chips (9-12), apples.

Wednesday, May 3: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Fiesta pizza, red peppers, celery, bananas.

Thursday, May 4: Breakfast – Pancake and sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Scalloped potatoes and ham, roll, broccoli/cauliflower, cherry tomatoes (9-12), pears.

Friday, May 5: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – French bread pizza, romaine salad, cucumbers, oranges.

Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.

Ernst staff to host traveling office hours next week

Representatives from the office of Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) will be available in all 99 counties throughout May to assist Iowans with problems or questions about issues involving Social Security, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration issues and other federal programs.

Constituents seeking assistance with federal agencies who are unable to attend the traveling office hours can contact one of the senator’s offices directly or submit a casework request online at http://www.Ernst.senate.gov. If you have any questions, please contact the senator’s office.

Ernst’s staff will be at the following locations next week. Please note that Senator Ernst will not be at the traveling office hours.

• Clay County: Thursday, May 4, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Spencer City Hall Council Chambers, 101 West 5th Street, Spencer.

• O’Brien County: Thursday, May 4, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Primghar City Hall Council Room, 160 South Hayes Avenue, Primghar.

• Osceola County: Tuesday, May 2, 9-10 a.m., Sibley City Hall Conference Room, 121 9th Street, Sibley.

Movie night at First Reformed Church in Melvin

The next movie night at the First Reformed Church in Melvin will be Sunday evening, April 30 at 7 p.m. At that time the movie “Lifemark” will be shown.

The movie is based on a true story of an 18-year-old boy named David whose comfortable world is turned upside down when his birthmother unexpectedly reaches out to him, longing to meet the son she’s only held once. With the encouragement of his adoptive parents, David sets out on a journey of discovery that leads to a staggering truth from his past. “Lifemark” is an incredible story that celebrates the gift of life.

Refreshments will be served during a brief intermission.

Special speaker at LWML Zone Rally

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will host the LWML Northwest Zone Spring Rally on Friday, April 28, starting at 1:30 p.m.

A Hartley native, Dr. Steven Meyer, of The Center for Neurosciences, Orthopedics & Spine (CNOS) in Dakota Dunes, S.D., will be the guest speaker. He has been very active with Siouxland Tanzania Educational and Medical Ministry (STEMM) and will share his experiences with those attending. STEMM is an inter-denominational Christian ministry founded in 1996.

The ladies of St. Paul’s invite everyone to attend and learn about Dr. Meyer’s activities with STEMM. Refreshments will be served after the presentation.
