• LP gas, regulators stolen

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on April 7 regarding the theft of approximately $2,400 in LP gas from a farm site in the 1400 mile of 270th Street. Two gas regulators and some copper line were also taken.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.

• Cited for no driver’s license

A Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 3500 mile of M54 at 6:15 p.m. on April 13. Upon investigation, it was found that the driver, Andrea Lee, 35, of Emmetsburg, did not have a valid driver’s license.

Lee was charged with No Driver’s License, No Insurance, Fraudulent Use of Registration and Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle, all simple misdemeanors. She was released from jail on bond.

• Violation of probation warrant

Santos Beal, 40, was taken into custody on April 15 at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on an active warrant for Probation Violation (two counts). Bond was set at $4,000 cash only. Beal was held in the county jail for another agency.

• Injured in Sioux County accident

Two persons were taken to area hospitals following a traffic accident that recently occurred southwest of Boyden.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that a 2011 Ford driven by Alfonso Morales Vicente, 43, of Sioux Center, was eastbound on 370th Street, and a 2012 Ford driven by Braden Spronk, 18, of Hartley, was northbound on Jay Avenue. Both vehicles entered the uncontrolled intersection, with the front of Spronk’s vehicle colliding with the passenger side of Vincente’s vehicle, which overturned and came to rest upside down.

Morales Vincente was transported to Orange City Health System while Spronk was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Damage estimates were $8,000 for the Morales Vincente vehicle and $6,000 for the Spronk vehicle.

The report stated that Morales Vincente was charged with Failure to Yield to Vehicle on the Right, Driving While Licensed Suspended, Canceled or Revoked, and Driving While License is Suspended.

• Vehicle goes airborne

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that William Safley, 73, of Peterson, was driving westbound in the 1800 mile of 440th Street, at 2:45 p.m. on April 12, when his 2020 Chevrolet Equinox entered the north ditch, struck a field approach and went airborne. The vehicle landed and overturned onto its side, striking a cattle yard fence.

The report stated that Safley suffered minor injuries and was removed from the vehicle by first responders at the scene. Damage to the Equinox was listed at $20,000. The sheriff’s office was assisted by first responders from Royal and Peterson, Spencer Ambulance and Bud’s Towing Service.
