New donors welcome for April 26 blood drive in Hartley

Donors are needed for the Hartley community blood drive on Wednesday, April 26, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center. New donors are especially welcome.

Donation appointments are encouraged. Schedule yours by texting LIFESERVE to 999-777, calling (800) 287-4903 or visiting lifeservebloodcenter.org.

H-M-S prom Grand March is Saturday

Prom grand march at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn will be held on Saturday, April 22 at the H-M-S Events Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., with grand march to follow at 6:30 p.m.

Everly Fire & Rescue breakfast is April 30

Everly Fire & Rescue will host its annual breakfast on Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., at the fire station.

The menu features French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, lil’ smokies and beverages. A free will offering will be accepted, and all proceeds will go towards the department’s new truck and equipment.

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving three carryout specials on Wednesday, April 26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

Spring clean-up day in Hartley

Hartley will hold its spring clean-up on Monday, April 24. Once trucks pick up refuse on your block, they will not return to pick up more.

‘Adopt a Pot’ in Hartley this spring

Around 20 flower pots will once again be planted and placed throughout Hartley this spring, and local residents are encouraged to adopt one by May 1.

There are three ways to participate, and all support is welcome. See the ad on Page 2 for more details.

Upcoming events at Hartley library

The Hartley Public Library will host Story Time at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24.

The library will also host a program on the extraordinary life of Marion Helland, a local woman who dedicated her life to civil rights service, on Monday, April 24 at 6 p.m.

This will be a program detailing her life and work, along with some memorabilia and mementos from her nine decades of service. A question and answer time will follow the program.

Clay County Treasurer’s Office closed May 3

The Clay County Treasurer’s Office will be closed Wednesday, May 3, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for a motor vehicle and driver’s license district meeting.

Bridal shower for Valerie Treimer

A bridal shower for Valerie Treimer will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 10-11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. She is registered at Target, Crate & Barrel and West Elm.

Treimer is the bride-to-be of Kevin Courtney.

St. Joseph’s Arts Council sponsors May 7 concert

A trio of musically talented Iowa Great Lakes natives will present an afternoon of fun and music for everyone at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Milford. Dave Rowley, Karess Knudtson and Ryan Sather will perform in a concert sponsored by the St. Joseph’s Arts Council at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. A freewill donation will be accepted.

Rowley and Sather are popular Lakes area entertainers. They have been together for more than a decade performing in many area venues, garnering a large following of fans. Knudtson, a multi-talented artist, vocalist, photographer and naturalist, is also an Okoboji native. Instrumentally, Rowley will be on keyboard and Sather will be on guitar. Knudtson will share vocals.

There will be something for everyone as they perform their renditions of classical hits, an original song or two, and wonderful arrangements of new and old hits. An ice cream reception will follow the concert in the St. Joseph’s Parish Center.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
