H-M-S track teams compete at Dan Lennon meet

Emily Mutombo records 2 Top 10 finishes; Ethan Diehm fifth in long jump

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's Emily Mutombo finished in the Top 10 twice during the Dan Lennon Invitational hosted by the University of South Dakota on March 28.

After a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 60-meter dash preliminaries (:08.22) and semifinals (:08.26), Mutombo finished sixth in the finals (:08.36).

The senior also placed seventh in the long jump. Her best leap was 15'5".

Freshman Clara Funk was a Top 10 finisher in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:29.87.

Other individual results include: 60-meter dash prelims – Abby Otto, 74th, :09.21; Payton Diehm, 102nd, :09.54. 400-meter dash – Evelyn Steffen, 74th, 1:17.34; Moriah Otto, 78th, 1:17.97; Diehm, 85th, 1:20.71. 800-meter run – Jocelyn Abonce, 44th, 3:08.75. 1600-meter run – Lexi Croatt, 54th, 7:21.53; Funk, 62nd, 7:56.99. 3200-meter run – Croatt, 21st, 15:30.94. 60-meter hurdles – Frankie Mohni, 45th, :11.49; Megan Otto, 82nd, :13.91.


Relay results were: 4x200 – (A) Abby Otto, Megan Otto, Moriah Otto, Mutombo, 42nd, 2:07.24; (B) Mohni, Steffen, Pamela Mutombo, Diehm, 52nd, 2:12.51. 1600 medley relay – (A) Moriah Otto, P. Mutombo, E. Mutombo, Abonce, 44th, 5:32.26; (B) A. Otto, Megan Otto, Mohni, Funk, 48th, 5:43.84.

Results for the field events were: High jump – Megan Otto, 34th, 4'4". Long jump – Diehm, 56th, 11'10-1/4". Shot put – Hannah Tessum, 58th, 24'9-3/4"; Alexis Grover, 70th, 21'10-3/4"; Natalie McDaniel, 85th, 16'1".

Senior Ethan Diehm recorded a Top 10 finish in the long jump at the Dan Lennon Invitational. He placed fifth with a leap of 19'9-1/2".


Another senior, Bradley Zamudio, placed 10th in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles (:09.34) and finished 12th in the semifinals (:09.33).

Other individual results included: 60-meter dash prelims – Ryan Borden, 22nd, :07.53; Jr Araiza, 109th, :08.80. 400-meter dash – Carter Dolphin, 65th, 1:04.16; Josh Cruz, 69th, 1:04.60; David Wetrich, 90th, 1:09.07. 800-meter run – Blaine Finster, 52nd, 2:42.49; Jose Perez-Perez, 54th, 2:44.74; Damian Dodge, 56th, 2:49.28. 1600-meter run – Bryce Dodge, 32nd, 5:42.40; George Vargas, 39th, 5:48.07; Ryan Grotluschen, 62nd, 6:35.68. 3200-meter run – Vargas, 17th, 11:44.58; Finster, 33rd, 12:55.74; Perez-Perez, 37th, 13:02.38.

The Hawks recorded these relay finishes: 4x200 – (A) Borden, Diehm, Araiza, James Gellerman, 30th, 1:47.71; (B) Zamudio, Wetrich, Dolphin, Cruz, 43rd, 1:55.90. 1600-meter medley – (B) Diehm, Wetrich, Zamudio, B. Dodge, 16th, 4:15.17; (A) Borden, Araiza, Vargas, Grotluschen, 42nd, 4 :37.21.

Zamudio placed 32nd in the long jump (17'4"). Competing in the shot put were Damion Hansen, 56th, 31'8"; Kevin Arambula, 67th, 29'4-3/4"; and Austin Smith, 75th, 27'8".
