The Hartley Police Department reported the following call activity for February 2023.

• Arrested on drug charges

An O’Brien County sheriff’s deputy observed John Bandomo, 37, of Primghar, hide a glass pipe containing methamphetamine residue in an empty plastic cup near a dumpster in Primghar on March 9. The report stated that Bandomo admitted the pipe was his.

Bandomo was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-3rd or subsequent offense, a class D felony. He was held in the O’Brien County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing on March 30.

Another arrest occurred on March 15 when an O’Brien County deputy stopped a vehicle in which Anthony Nicholson, 22, of Granville, was a passenger. Nicholson was allegedly in possession of a bag with white crystalline residue that was consistent with methamphetamine, as well seven grams of meth and a meth pipe on his person.

Charges included Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a class D felony; and Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Nicholson was released after posting a $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing will be held March 24.

• Collide at onramp

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported that Heather Ten Kley, 45, of Hartley, was westbound on A22 crossing a Highway 60 overpass at 11:25 a.m. on March 10. Tanner Doeden, 32, of George, was driving a 2004 Freightliner eastbound on A22 and did not see the Ten Kley vehicle. As Doeden attempted to turn left onto the onramp for Highway 60, Ten Kley could not stop her 2005 Chevrolet, which collided with the Freightliner.

According to the report, Ten Kley had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Osceola Regional Health Center by Sibley Ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. Damage estimates were $5,000 for the Ten Kley vehicle and $1,500 for the semi. Doeden was cited with Failure to Yield Upon Left Turn.

• No injuries in Webb accident

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident which occurred in Webb at 1:50 p.m. on March 13.

The report stated that Nathan Mader, 38, of Webb, was backing a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado out of his driveway and failed to see a 2020 Jeep Renegade driven by Brandon Christopher, 46, of Spencer, which was northbound in the 400 block of Church Street. The Renegade struck the right rear side of the Silverado.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the Renegade was estimated at $7,000 and damage to the Silverado was estimated at $6,000. Mader was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway.

• Crime Duster release

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire at a farm acreage northwest of Primghar. The address is 3730 Roosevelt Avenue. The farm consists of several outbuildings and a vacant house. A fire was reported on Feb. 10, 2023, at approximately 2:25 a.m. The vacant house was fully engulfed upon report. There was no electricity going to the farm acreage. The house and contents were considered a total loss and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Anyone who has information related to this crime is encouraged to contact the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office. The information could include suspicious people or vehicles in or around the property in days leading up to the fire. The O’Brien County Crime Dusters program is offering a $1,500 reward to anyone who provides information on this crime that leads to the arrest and conviction of the offender.
