Next Hartley Legion fish fry is March 31

The Hartley American Legion Family will host its next fish fry on Friday, March 31. Fried Alaskan Pollock and several side options will be available.

The event will be held at the Hartley American Legion Hall from 5-7 p.m. See the ad on Page 10 for more details.

Grace Fellowship preschool sign-up

Grace Fellowship Community Preschool will hold its registration night for 3-year-olds on Monday, March 27, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Registration will be held in the lounge at the front of the church. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Red’s Catering menu

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving three carryout specials on Wednesday, March 29 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

Fish fry and carnival planned at CC/E

Clay Central/Everly Elementary will host its annual fish fry on Friday, March 31. Carninval games with prizes will also be held in the gym.


Proceeds will benefit the CC/E Nature Learning Center. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Trinity UCC Beef Supper is April 5

Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley will hold its annual beef supper on Wednesday, April 5 from 5-7 p.m. The menu features roast beef with all the trimmings.

EFR to honor Lefty Ginger

Everly Fire & Rescue will hold a benefit for Roger “Lefty” Ginger on Sunday, April 2 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center.


Ginger is retiring from the department after more than 50 years of service. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Easter egg hunt in Sanborn April 1

The Sanborn First Reformed Church will hold a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. The event will be held on the church’s lawn.

Water trail meeting is postponed

Due to inclement weather, the Inkpaduta (Little Sioux) Water Trail Landowner meeting scheduled for March 16 at the Prairie Heritage Center was postponed. The O’Brien County Conservation Board encourages landowners who were invited to attend the meetings to watch for rescheduled dates.

Al Anon meetings scheduled

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

All are welcome to attend.

HPL to show movie April 3

Hartley Public Library will host a screening of the new movie “A Man Called Otto” on Monday, April 3 at 6 p.m. The movie is based on the book “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrick Backman. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Tuesday, March 28: Breakfast – Egg and cheese biscuit, fruit, juice; Lunch – Hog dog on bun, French fries, baked beans, peaches.

Wednesday, March 29: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Fiestada pizza, carrots/celery, grapes.

Thursday, March 30: Breakfast – Pancake and sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Mandarin orange chicken, rice, broccoli/cauliflower, pineapple.

Friday, March 31: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Breaded cheese bites, romaine salad, cherry tomatoes, applesauce.

Wednesday, March 29: Breakfast – Biscuit with sausage, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice; Lunch – Sloppy joe, baby carrots, pears.

Thursday, March 30: Breakfast – French toast sticks, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice; Lunch – Chicken taco, refried beans, rice, banana.

Friday, March 31: Breakfast – Donut, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice; Lunch – Cheese ravioli, broccoli, bread stick, peaches.

Milk is served with each meal. Menus are subject to change at any time.

Property tax installments due next week

The second half installment of property taxes is due Friday, March 31. In Clay County, payments may be made Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the treasurer’s office located at 300 West 4th Street in Spencer. They may be also made by mail or dropped off in the boxes on the north and south side of the Administration Building.

Property tax information may be obtained online at http://www.iowatreasurers.org or by calling the treasurer’s office at (712) 262-2179. Transaction fees apply to payments made online by E-check or with the use of debit and cards.

According to Clay County Treasurer LeAnn Black, payment of the second installment must be received in her office or postmarked by March 31 in order to avoid penalty.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
