Robert “Louie” Louis Jensen passed away in Ligonier, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at the age of 91. His battle with serious medical issues in the last 11 months of his life showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite his difficult recovery from three surgeries, Robert stayed strong until the end and continued to tell his doctors, nurses and friends, “I sure am a lucky guy.”

Robert was born at the home of his parents, Louis and Coila (Norland) Jensen, on May 15, 1931, near his grandparents’ farm in Linn Grove. He recalled that his parents bought their original farm place near Moneta when he was six years old, and he continued to live and work on that same farm for nearly his entire life.

After graduating from Moneta High School, Robert was drafted into the United States Army and shipped out to Korea where he operated heavy equipment and lived in a tent barracks near Seoul for two years. He remembered heading to Korea and sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge.

He returned home from Korea and in March of 1954 married his sweetheart, Georgia, who was the love of his life. They were indeed partners and enjoyed farming and traveling together. They had three children and were active in their church and community. Summers were spent at their lake house where they entertained family and friends. They enjoyed playing cards with their high school friends, which continued for over 65 years.

After Georgia’s passing in April 2020, Robert moved to Pennsylvania to live with his youngest daughter, Monica, and her husband Matt. Despite the restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic, Robert enjoyed exploring Pennsylvania and traveling around the country.

On Sept. 11, 2021, Robert joined a group of veterans hosted by Honor Flight on a tour of Washington D.C. memorials. He was one of four veterans to have the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; and sister, Joan Seely.

Robert leaves his children: Randy, Martia and Monica, and her husband, Matt; grandchildren: George and Lauren Oggero, R. Walt Oggero and Pierce Jensen; his sister-in-law, Marjorie Brehmer; nieces, Sheila, Jennifer and Julie; and nephews, Mark, Daniel and Stacy, and their families. He will be fondly remembered by family, cousins and friends.
