Hartley Legion fish fry schedule

The Hartley American Legion Family is once again hosting Friday night fish fries on March 3, March 17 and March 31. Fried Alaskan Pollock and several side options will be available.

The events will be held at the Hartley American Legion Hall from 5-7 p.m. See the ad on Page 9 for more details.

Daycare fundraiser is March 4

The Hartley Community Daycare Center will hold its annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 4.

The evening will feature a prime rib meal and casino games. All proceeds from the event will benefit the daycare center.

Tickets on sale for HCC VIP night

The Hartley Community Center will host its annual VIP fundraiser on Saturday, March 25. This year’s show will feature an improv comedy act.


Tickets can be purchased by calling (712) 728-2045 or contacting any community center board member. Tickets are also available at Treimer’s Insurance Agency in Hartley and 300 Acres at Business Corner near May City.

CC/E preschool, kindergarten round-up is March 14

Local students and parents are invited to check out what’s new at Clay Central/Everly Elementary on March 14 during the school’s preschool and kindergarten round-up.

Visitors will be able to meet the CC/E staff and tour the school’s updated facilities. Those unable to attend can still register for the 2023-24 school year by calling the elementary at (712) 933-2241.

Red’s Catering March 1 menu

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving two carryout specials on Wednesday, March 1 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

HLC food pantry open Wednesdays

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Book club will meet Feb. 28 at HPL

Between the Covers Book Club will meet at the Hartley Public Library at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, to discuss “State of Wonder” by Ann Patchett.

Monday, Feb. 27: Breakfast – Cereal, fruit, juice; Lunch – Mandarin orange chicken and rice, broccoli/cauliflower, pineapple, bread (9-12).

Tuesday, Feb. 28: Breakfast – Egg and cheese biscuit, fruit, juice; Lunch – Hot dog on bun, French fries, baked beans, apples.

Wednesday, March 1: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Taco in a bag, lettuce/cheese, red peppers, tomatoes, grapes.

Thursday, March 2: Breakfast – Pancake and sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Spaghetti, breadstick, green beans, baby carrots, applesauce.

Friday, March 3: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Popcorn shrimp, mac and cheese, corn, peaches.

Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.

Monday, Feb. 27: Breakfast – Cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice; Lunch – Chicken nuggets, carrots, fruit cocktail.

Tuesday, Feb. 28: Breakfast – Scrambled egg, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice; Lunch – Taco burger, tater rounds, corn, peaches.

Milk is served with each meal. Menus are subject to change at any time.

Grassley staff to hold local office hours

The staff of Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) will hold traveling office hours focused on the 2023 Farm Bill in 14 counties during the months of February and March. Iowans seeking information or wishing to share views on matters related to the Farm Bill may stop by to express their opinions during the scheduled hours.

Regional Director Jacob Bossman and Interim Regional Director Garrett Arbuckle will hold hours in Sutherland on Friday, March 10 from 10-11 a.m., at Gen. N.B. Baker Library, 315 Ash St. Staff from additional Iowa congressional offices are invited and expected to be in attendance. Grassley will not be present.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings scheduled

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

All are welcome to attend.

Archer Eagles to gather for 2023 reunion in July

The Archer Consolidated School, home of the Archer Eagles, will be having a reunion for all students, teachers, support staff and families on Sunday, July 2.

The reunion will be held at the Archer United Methodist Church. The gathering will begin at 1:30 p.m., and will continue until all friendships have been renewed. Refreshments will be provided.

Private pesticide training is March 8

ISU Extension in O’Brien County has changed the date of the private pesticide training during March. The training will now be held on Wednesday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the Primghar Community Center.

Another training is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in Room 119 of Building A at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.
